Likka
Likka is a raw silk fiber that is placed inside the inkwell to help control the amount of ink that gets on to your pen.
In order to understand the concept of likka, take the following example:
Imagine you are asked to put your fingerprint on to a piece of paper. If you dip your finger into a bottle of ink and then place it on the paper, you will not see a fingerprint — rather, you will have a blob of ink. However, if you placed your finger on to a stamp pad and then on to the paper, you will see a clean and crisp fingerprint.
Likka serves the same purpose as a stamp pad. If you dipped your pen into the ink bottle, when you put it to the paper you will have too much ink on your pen and your pen will start to blot. However, if you use the likka properly, you will have just the right amount of ink on your pen and therefore have clean and crisp lines.
To use the likka, place it inside your inkwell inside and dampen slightly with distilled water. Pour in ink until the likka is completely black and covered in ink. Avoid adding too much ink as this will defeat the purpose of the likka.
