Mehmed Şevki Efendi (1829-1887), one of the greatest Ottoman calligraphy masters to have lived, is known to have brought the Thuluth and Naskh scripts to the height of perfection. His writing is therefore used as an essential part of the calligraphy learning curriculum, and is an essential book for every calligrapher studying Thuluth and Naskh.

As demonstrated in this book, the curriculum often begins with learning a prayer, then moving on to learning the individual letters, joint letter combinations, and then selected texts. Under the guidance of a master, students work through one line at a time, perfecting each line before moving on to the next.

This book is published by IRCICA (Research Centre for Islamic History, Art, and Culture) and includes an introduction by M. Uğur Derman.
